Joseph received his physical therapy training and practiced as a geriatric physical therapist in Taiwan. He earned his PhD in 2006 from the University of Oregon, USA, focusing on attention, cognition, and balance in older adults with balance problems. He is currently a professor in Physical Therapy at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, USA and oversees a global health opportunities program in Physical Therapy. He works closely with international physical therapy students and helps them to advance their professional developments.
Joseph was the founding member of the APTA Geriatrics Global Health for Aging Adults Special Interest Group and formally served as the IPTOP MCR for USA and APTA Geriatrics. He is interested in studying age-related factors that influence balance and gait in older adults and exploring the use of gerontechnologies (e.g., fall detection devices, home monitoring systems) to advance health in older people . He is also involved in community-based exercise programs implementation (e.g., Tai Chi or dual-tasking) to improve physical and cognitive health in older people.
